The summer season highlights are attended by thousands of people. From September till June, there are plays at the theatre and at other places around Montreuil.

Victor Hugo and Montreuil-sur-Mer

In 1837, Victor Hugo toured Belgium and Northern France. On his way back to Paris, he travelled along the Opale Coast and stopped in Montreuil-sur-Mer on Septembre 4th 1837. A few years later he set the main story of the first part of his novel “Les Miserables” in this town. Since 1996, more than 400 volunteers have performed in a famous Sound and Light Show.
Every year last week end of july and the first of august.

Fiction and reality mingle, the story and the dream overlap each other within the mysterious setting of the citadel.
